Lava Flower

Lava Flower.jpg

Lava is the blood of the Earth. Our land, air and water all literraly come from this molten fluid. In a constant process of formation and change, the Earth has been cooling for 5 billion years. In our time here now we will witness only an instant of this process.

I call this image "Lava Flower". It holds great mystery for me. How can this hard, brittle lava look so fluid? It seems to be frozen still in motion. And how can the bubble have cooled fast enough to be caught in the act of bursting? Where did the golden accents come from that create a contrast that highlights the form. It’s a magical image with endless overtones.

What an amazing piece of captured time - the movement of fire caught in the stillness of ice.
