The Golden Rock

Golden Rock for intro.jpg

I can walk for hours, even days, and see nothing to shoot. Then I come into an area where shots call out from everywhere. There is a spot I call "rock meadow" where I have spent many days shooting and have not begun to explore all the possibilities.

This golden colored erratic is unique in this area. None of the other large or small erratics around it have this color. It is radiant in the glow right before sunset.

The texture of the rock's face is intricate. You can sense the work of the rain striking the face of the rock, clinging, forming rivulets that follow the tiny trails etched in the surface. You can magine the ice that forms on the rock when the world is white here and these meadows lie deep in snow.

The way the pine hugs the rock surface and sends out no lateral branches is very unusual. The pines lower form completely spans and embraces the full base of the golden rock and flows to the right in perfect counter rhythm to the rock, balancing its leftward motion with a graceful sweep to the right!

Over the years I have never lost the sense of power I felt when I first found this place. When you are by this object, you feel it is in the center of the Universe!
